Never mind the upcoming mega movie events of the summer! It's time to make you aware of an all new event whose combined budget probably wouldn't even be Man of Steel's craft services budget. Wolverine's maybe, but definitely not Man of Steel.

In the 1950s and 1960s, drive-ins began to spread like wildfire, increasing to more than 4,000 locations. The new sites may have begun as a venue to watch films, but interestingly, the main films that were shown were mostly considered to be B films. Patrons enjoyed them regardless and remained enthralled with what they saw – so much so that the drive-in became a part of American culture where people came together to socialize with each other. It was an experience all of its own making and is considered an important part of Americana.

Today there are fewer than 400 drive-ins currently in operation across the United States.

A movie watched under the stars while breathing in the fresh air... Audience members could even get out of the cars to stretch their legs and still hear and see the movie. The environment provided much more freedom than an indoor theater, and people appreciated the intermissions. It was a magical experience, and the memory of childhood drive-ins still lingers in many people's memories.

In an attempted to re-ignite that drive-in passion, Polyscope Media Group LLC, in conjunction with The B-Movie Celebration and Avery Battles, is announcing the launch of the 2013 B-Movie Road Tour.

"Last year I curated the B-Movie Celebration, and people kept complaining that the location of the Celebration was too far, but wouldn't it be great to get emerging and classic B-movies in their town," says Battles. "This was our inspiration for the Road Tour; our goal pure and simple is making films and film-going fun again!"

The Road Tour heads off the first week of July and will initially feature the following lineup:

"A Boy And His Dog' - The classic 1975 black post-apocalyptic comedy from the fertile mind of Harlan Ellison and directed by L.Q. Jones.

"Embedded" - New release: A news reporter and his cameraman embed themselves with a group of hunters before all goes awry, only to find themselves as the hunted. Directed by Michael Bafaro.

"The Giant Spider" - New release: Christopher R. Mihm's homage to 1950's creature features.

"Gila!" - New release: The Jim Wynorski remake of the 1959 classic "The Giant Gila Monster".

"The Lost Empire" - 30th Anniversary tour. In a land in a distant past, three beautiful women, members of a lost tribe, battle a madman with diabolical plans to destroy their "Lost Empire." Directed by Jim Wynorski.

"Nightbeasts" - New release: A father and son on a weekend hunting trip encounter supernatural horror in the woods. Ably directed by Wes Sullivan and stars Zach Galligan (Gremlins).

"Rabid Love" - New release: Paul J. Porter's ode to the classic horror film of the 1980, not to be missed.

"Resurrection" - New release: Genetically modified food begins to slowly turn the population of a small MidWest town mad. Directed by Jeff Burr.

With this lineup, the organizers of the B-Movie Road Tour hope to help audiences nationwide re-discover their passion for the B-movie/drive-in experience. As of the date of this release, 132 theaters have committed to participating in this year's tour, including drive-in theaters. And by the way, June 6th, 2013, was the 80th Anniversary of the drive-in movie theatre.

If there's one thing director Roland Emmerich can do well, it's stage gigantic alien invasion movies that are home to incredible set pieces and lots of big budget carnage! Well, guess what, kids...

According to Deadline, Roland Emmerich's Centropolis Entertainment has acquired Emergence, a pitch for a large scale contemporary science fiction film by scribe Nic Kelman. Emmerich plans to direct the film, which is a new take on an alien invasion story containing hot-button science elements.

Hot-button science elements? Color us intrigued.

Kirstin Winkler, Centropolis’ Executive Vice President of Production, and Aaron Boyd, the company’s Director of Development, are set to produce. More on this one as it comes.

Gravitas Ventures has released the official domestic one-sheet and trailer for the upcoming remake Apartment 1303 3D, and you can check it out now. The flick will hit VOD on June 17th before hitting theaters on July 25th.

Written and directed by Michael Taverna and starring Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Rebecca De Mornay (Mother’s Day, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Corey Sevier (Immortals), and Julianne Michelle (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Apartment 1303 3D is based on a novel by Kei Ôishi and is a remake of the Japanese flick of the same name.

Synopsis
Having grown up under the controlling grip of her fame-hungry mother (De Mornay), Janet Slate (Michelle) jumps at the opportunity to move into what looks to be a great high-rise apartment in downtown Detroit. Yet, some deals are too good to be true as one night her boyfriend, Mark (Sevier), finds her in the middle of the street – having fallen from the balcony thirteen stories above.

When her sister, Lara (Barton), tries to investigate the mystery of what happened, she moves into the same apartment and encounters the odd neighbors in the building, including an eerie nine-year-old girl who seems to somehow know the real reason for Janet’s fall. Lara soon realizes that her sister’s death might spell the same fate for her unless she can overcome the strange events that are terrorizing the inhabitants in Apartment 1303.

Right now we have the kind of news we love to end the work week with. We told you about Harbinger Down, a tense, claustrophobic creature film that will feature only practical animatronic and makeup effects. Back then it was seeking funds via Kickstarter. Today it's an absolute go!

Thanks to 3,066 monster-loving backers, $384,181 was pledged, exceeding their initial goal of $350,000. Screw Veronica Mars! This is the kind of thing Kickstarter was made for! Hollywood just won't fund an original old-school monster movie, but it's good to see that the fans will! Amalgamated Dynamics' Alec Gillis writes and directs.

Synopsis:
A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship's crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation.

Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for three decades, the creatures aren't about to give up the warmth of human companionship.

Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., are among the most talented and passionate FX men working today, and with Harbinger Down they hope to send a message to Hollywood that there is no substitute for good ol' fashioned practical creatures. And they're taking their approach one step further by hiring the best vets in the business to create models, miniatures and stop-motion techniques to create an experience that feels 100% authentic. How awesome is that?!?

Yesterday we told you that Joe Johnston's Not Safe for Work was going to be headed straight to video. The news came from an interview the LA Times did with producer Jason Blum that made things sound kind of grim. Apparently that's not the case at all.

The original comment was as follows: "Some of my movies work, and some of them don't," Blum said. "I want to be able to say to the studio, 'We missed; let's go to VOD.'"

Bloody Disgusting got in touch with Blum, who clarified his remarks. He wasn’t addressing the quality of any film in particular, just whether one of his movies would work as a wide release. Moreover, in the above quote he was talking about his model and preference of options rather than directly addressing any specific movie or the quality of the film. And, for the record, he “thinks it's great.”

For the film Johnston reteamed with his Captain America star JJ Feild (Neil Marshall's Centurion) along with Tom Gallop (The Bourne Identity) and Emmy winner Christian Clemenson ("CSI: Miami"). Max Minghella (The Social Network) stars as the cunning protagonist, while Eloise Mumford (ABC's "The River") plays his girlfriend, who works at the same office along with Clemenson.

Horror favorites Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Blood River, The Devil's Chair) wrote the script, which follows a young paralegal trapped in an office with a killer on a secret mission to destroy files and anyone that stands in his path.

Well, no. We'll be reviewing things for some time to come providing we too don't fall victim to our shit ass economy. What we have here is our verdict on the upcoming apocalyptic comedy This Is the End. Read on to see how this one measures up!

With E3 bearing down on us, video game companies are all vying for our attention, and one that definitely grabbed ours is Techland, who just released the first trailer for Dying Light.

Daylight is releasing for PC and PlayStation 4 in 2014. The game will take full advantage of the PS4 features by using Unreal Engine, allowing players to share gameplay online and capture their most horrific moments to show off to friends. Read on to see the scary good new E3 trailer!

Next-gen will be a scary place thanks to Daylight, a psychological thriller built on Unreal Engine 4. Developed by Zombie Studios and published worldwide by ATLUS, Daylight will release in early 2014 simultaneously for the PC and as a console exclusive for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system. Only the bravest souls will find all the messages and clues scattered through Daylight's labyrinthine twists of derelict hospital corridors and other creepy environments, where procedurally generated levels ensure no two playthroughs will be the same.

Daylight is told in the first-person perspective and begins with players regaining consciousness in an abandoned hospital with only a cell phone to use as a source of light. The ominous atmosphere, powered by Unreal Engine 4, gives players the immediate feeling that they need to escape. But since each level is procedurally generated, no clues, haunted corridors, life-saving flares or lurking specter will ever be in the same place twice. Daylight was written by industry veteran Jessica Chobot, who also provides the quavering, terrified voice of the protagonist.

"Since showing off a pre-alpha build of Daylight at PAX East, the attention on the project has grown tremendously! Daylight will release in Q1 of 2014 for a global audience on both PC and as a console exclusive for the upcoming PlayStation 4 system. Price is still to be determined, and the game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Another Shadowhunter graces the latest character poster for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: Meet Isabelle, an Instrument of good, portrayed by Jemima West.

Who's down for a little monster mayhem? Show of hands? Anyone? What? All of you? Well okay then! A bunch of new stills from Steven C. Miller's film Under the Bed (review) have hit the interwebs, and we have your road map to the goodies. Dig it!

Under the Bed, the new horror/thriller from the producers of V/H/S and director Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Silent Night), stars Jonny Weston, the young star of Chasing Mavericks, and Gattlin Griffith (Green Lantern, Changeling). Written by Eric Stolze, the film also stars Peter Holden, Musetta Vander, and Kelcie Stranahan. It tells the story of two brothers who team up to battle the monster living under their bed.

XLrator Media will release the film July 19th.

Synopsis:
Every child knows about the monster under the bed—Neal Hausman’s mistake was trying to fight it. Neal (Jonny Weston) has returned from a two-year exile following his tragic attempt to defeat the monster, only to find his father ticking ever closer to a breakdown, a new stepmother who fears him, and his little brother, Paul (Gattlin Griffith), terrorized by the same monster. While Neal and Paul work together to try to fight the nocturnal menace, their parents are taking desperate measures to get the family back to normal. From the people who brought you Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Vampires Suck... Scared yet? You better be because they’re back with their latest allegedly comedic con job cleverly entitled The Starving Games.

From Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the writing-directing duo that are to great comedy what a scorching case of herpes is to great sex, comes The Starving Games, which we first heard about last October and hoped might disappear (no such luck obviously). If you’re familiar with their previous films, then you should pretty much know what to expect here, albeit this one is even cheaper looking than their previous endeavors.

As you can imagine from the title, the bulk of the movie is a spoof of The Hunger Games. That doesn’t mean they didn’t find a way to clumsily work in such other time-stamped pop culture references as Angry Birds, "Gangnam Style," and Avatar. Seriously, Avatar jokes in 2013? At least The Avengers and The Expendables are topical.

The movie stars Maira Walsh, most recently seen in the “Zombieland” TV pilot that was hated out of existence. Co-starring are Brant Daugherty and Cody Christian, both of whom recently co-starred on the show “Pretty Little Liars”. Either Friedberg & Seltzer really like that show or the two guys have the same agent, who needs a stern talking to.

The movie does not yet have a US distributor, but you can expect that to change shortly. Remember Vampires Suck cost only $20 million to make and grossed over $80 million worldwide, opening #2 in the US. Don’t be surprised to see The Starving Games in a theater near you in the months to come. Hell, they’ve already gotten the greenlight to make Superfast, their next spoof of the Fast & Furious franchise.

One cannot accuse the trailer for The Starving Games of not having some moments of sheer honesty. The guy yelling “This is bullshit!” pretty much sums it all up, as does having the trailer end with someone getting shit on their face.

"Good morning, hungry citizens of District 12! Don’t forget today is the Gathering Ceremony, so parents please bring your beloved children to the square for a random death lottery.”

When lithe and fearless Kantmiss Evershot (a dead ringer for Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take part in the winner-takes-all STARVING GAMES, she takes on a whole lot more than we could ever have bargained for... including Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and The Avengers.

While our friends in the UK are already aware of how their version of "Being Human" ended up, we Yanks won't find out until July 13th, when it premieres on BBC America. To whet our appetites, here's a teaser trailer for the show.

Meanwhile, Hal meets his old ghost friend Lady Mary (Amanda Hale, "Ripper Street"), which sparks intense jealousy from Alex.

Mr. Rook is desperate as his government department inches closer to its end, and in order to prevent it from happening, he sets off searching for private investors. While Hal is entrusted with getting vampire Crumb in order, Alex is not so sure he can be managed.

Tom falls for new hotel staff member Natasha (Kathryn Prescott, "Skins"), but she has come to the attention of Hal for seedier reasons. Reeling from unfortunate occurrences at the hotel, Alex is determined to get to the bottom of it, even if it means putting her safety at risk.

Travel Channel’s “Ghost Adventures” follows lead paranormal investigator Zak Bagans, along with fellow investigators Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin, as they explore the scariest, most notorious haunted places in the world. By interviewing eyewitnesses and historians at each location, the trio arm themselves with the stories of the ghosts they later confront during their dusk-to-dawn lockdowns. They then review and analyze their findings with some of the most respected experts and specialists in the paranormal field.

Here it is, kids! The single most WTF story of the week. Yep, you read that headline correctly. Stunning, no? Read on for details of a Texas actress gone awry and her plot to take out President Obama. I mean, really... WTF?!?

Actress Shannon Richardson (pictured; "The Walking Dead,""The Vampire Diaries") was arrested in Arkansas on Friday, June 7, in connection with ricin-laced letters sent to President Barack Obama, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns in May.

Shannon Rogers Guess Richardson of New Boston, Texas, originally called the Federal Bureau of Investigation claiming that her husband had sent the letters, officials said, but the investigators found that she had sent the letters herself. Her husband, Nathaniel Richardson, is an Army veteran.

Investigators have been probing who sent the three letters, all postmarked May 20 from Shreveport, LA, and sent without a return address. The letters sent to Obama and Bloomberg were discovered during routine mail screenings processes. The letter to the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Mark Glaze, was opened.

“You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns,” the message sent to Bloomberg read, according to NBC New York, which obtained a copy of the letter. “Anyone who wants to come to my house will get shot in the face. The right to bear arms is my constitutional God given right and I will exercise that right till the day I die.”

Have fun fighting for that right behind bars, Shannon.

It's been about a year since we last heard anything about Albert Pyun's Cyborg Nemesis, but it has expanded its title to Cyborg Nemesis: The Dark Rift and gotten some new artwork and a teaser trailer.

Pyun is almost done with the production and tells us of the film's lead, Joei Fulco: "She is going to be a big star; she's amazing in Cyborg Nemesis and is only 16 years old!" He adds, "We have one more shoot to do at the end of June and expect it to include a well known action star I've worked with previously."

As for the teaser, beware that it only has a rough temp sound mix and the VFX shots are not final yet either, but it should give you an idea of where Pyun is going with the film, which is drawn from the world of Cyborg and the action of Nemesis. Cyborg Nemesis: The Dark Rift has been acquired by Wrekin Hill for release via Lionsgate later this year.

Synopsis:
A distress call goes out from an orbiting space station named the Dark Rift. A tactical Marine unit is sent to the Dark Rift to investigate the emergency. The Marines find that everyone on the station is dead except a 16-year-old girl, who turns out to be not what she seems.
