As a Denver local and devotee of the Drafthouse, it’s a great pleasure to inform all of you that the Mile High Horror Film Festival and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will be presenting an advance screening of James Wan’s newest thriller, The Conjuring on Monday, July 8th at 7 p.m.

Naturally, you’ll likely be competing with hundreds of others, as there are only 100 seats available for the screening. Tickets can be reserved at their event page on GoFobo, and each reservation allows the option of getting a second ticket for a friend.

The Mile High Horror Film Festival is a great fest (I’ve gone every year since its inception), and is held every October in beautiful Denver, CO. This year it will celebrate its new home at the Alamo Drafthouse Littleton, located at 7301 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO, 80120.

New Line Cinema presents an Evergreen Media Group/Safran Company Production of a James Wan Film: The Conjuring. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The film opens in the US and the UK on July 19, 2013.

In order to stop the madness, she must do what needs to be done. Armynel, starring Danielle DiLorenzo (2010 "Survivor" contestant), will be released on DVD July 16th, 2013.

Synopsis
For Savannah, a personal assistant at a law office struggling with a dark secret, bad dreams soon become nightmares and then progress to hallucinations. Finally she can't take it anymore and decides to tell her girlfriend, Felicia. Felicia tries to help by introducing her to psychiatrist Doctor Dale. As she begins her hypnosis therapy sessions and her dark secrets come to light, tragedies begin happening around Savannah, and all the signs point to her being the suspect.

Jeff (Matt Davis) and Skye pay a visit to Edie’s mother (guest star Teryl Rothery, “Kyle XY”). Peter (guest star Ben Hollingsworth) continues to spy on Skye.

Meanwhile, on the television show, Billy (Robert Knepper) nears his breaking point. Matt Barber directed the episode written by Lindsay Jewett Sturman.

"Cult" Episode 1.11 - “Flip the Script” (airs 7/5/13, 9-10 pm)
JEFF AND SKYE FAIL TO DECIPHER PHILIP KELLIAN’S MANUSCRIPT - Jeff (Matt Davis) and Skye (Jessica Lucas) question Dr. Kimble’s teaching assistant, Allegra (guest star Sheila Vand, “Argo”), and the three discover that Kimble’s lab has been ransacked. Allegra identifies Phillip Kellian’s manuscript as being almost identical to one of Kimble’s. Skye discovers that Stuart (guest star Jeffrey Pierce) opened a production company on the "Cult" studio lot, so they break into Stuart’s offices and discover a surveillance room with hidden camera feeds.

On the show, Kelly (Alona Tal) worries about Andy’s (guest star Christian Michael Cooper) growing fear of Meadow (guest star Shauna Johannesen). Kelly accompanies Meadow to therapy, and it is revealed that they witnessed their own parents’ murder as young girls. Leslie Libman directed the episode written by Rockne O’Bannon and Hans Tobeason.

Filming kicked off yesterday, July 1st, in Texas on Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods helmed by director Patricio Valladares, who also directed the original, and we have some exclusive behind-the-scenes images to share.

Hidden in the Woods is a remake of the 2012 Chilean horror film En las afueras de la ciudad. The story follows two sisters raised by their abusive father in a remote locale who must answer to their drug baron uncle when their father is imprisoned.

Michael Biehn stars alongside William Forsythe. Jennifer Blanc-Biehn produces with Loris Curci; Hackybox Pictures recently joined the project as a producer as well. Synopsis
Hidden in the Woods tells the story of two sisters who have been raised in isolation, subjected to the torment of their abusive, drug dealing father. When they finally decide to report him to the police, he kills the two officers and is put in jail. But things go from bad to worse when the girls must answer to their Uncle Costello, a psychotic drug kingpin, who shows up looking for his missing merchandise which is hidden in the woods.

The 14th annual Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) is happening alongside the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, and we have for you here both the horror/suspense and science fiction/fantasy schedules along with a link to the rest of the offerings.

The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) for 2013 offers a full schedule of some of the finest in genre films. All screenings and panels for the CCI-IFF will be held in the Marriott Marquis and Marina, right next door to the Convention Center (next to the Hall A end). The Film Festival will screen in Marriott Hall 2, which is at the far (north) end of the Marriott lobby, outside of the building (follow the signage to get to Marriott Hall 2). Included in this year’s schedule is the return of the popular “Comic-Con Film School” panels on all four days starting at 10:00 AM, along with an assortment of other film-oriented panel discussions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The CCI-IFF celebrates independent film, with the accent on genre-related entries, including action/adventure, animation, comics-oriented, documentary (related to pop culture topics), horror/suspense, humor, and science fiction/fantasy. The Festival includes a special awards program on Sunday in Marriott Hall 2, beginning at 11:00 AM. Sunday afternoon features rescreenings of the award-winning films. This year’s incredible schedule has a decidedly international flavor, with submissions from Australia, Canada, Israel, and Spain, in addition to the United States.

Now in its 14th year, the CCI-IFF is a juried event. Respected individuals in the fields of film and popular arts view the submissions and decide which films will be included in the festival and those deserving of prizes and awards. The 2013 judges are: Geoff Boucher, Alex DeMille, and Kathy Najimy.

We already knew "Hannibal" is heading to the 2013 SDCC, and now NBC has announced which other series it plans to bring to the upcoming gathering in San Diego, which runs from July 18th-21st. Here are the horror highlights, which include a special look at "Dracula."

“Hannibal,” “Grimm,” and “Revolution” will headline at Comic-Con, and featured during the “Grimm” panel will be a special trailer of the new Friday night series “Dracula,” starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

“Hannibal,” which is based on the characters created by author Thomas Harris in his novel “Red Dragon,” was one of the best-reviewed series of the past season and was recently renewed for Season Two. Hugh Dancy plays criminal profiler Will Graham while Mads Mikkelsen plays psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

In its first season, “Revolution” examined why the Earth’s power was turned off and asked how the world’s citizens are expected to survive. In the season finale the power is turned back on, but at what cost and consequence? The second season begins in the fall.

The man who scared the living hell out of audiences worldwide when he introduced the Ring franchise (sorry, Ringu is just a made up by Hollywood execs American mispronunciation), Hideo Nakata, is back with a Korean inspired chiller.

According to Variety, Nakata (pictured) will next direct a remake of Korean sci-fi chiller Haunters. Using the working title Monster, production of the Japanese-language retread gets under way later this month, with leading 30-something stars Fujiwara Tatsuya and Yamada Takayuki in the lead roles.

The story pitches together a psychic with supernatural powers and the ability to control other people’s minds against the one man who is able to resist him. “When they came to us, they explained that they were looking for a project that Nakata and Fujiwara could work on together,” said Lee Eugene of Zip Cinema, producer of the 2010 Korean original that was written and directed by Kim Min-seok. “Haunters was a film that they watched over and again and which they wanted to remake urgently with Japanese stars and a Japanese style.”

We have news from our Beating a Dead Horse Department: The sequel to the insipid Sadako 3D (review), which has been cleverly titled Sadako 3D 2, will be giving new meaning to the old telephone slogan "Reach out and touch someone" when it slinks into Japanese theatres on August 30th.

THR reports that the flick will be shown in a “smartphone 4D” version in Japan with a free app delivering vibration, flash, and sound special effects as well as extra visuals on mobile handset screens for the latest installment of horror series The Ring.

Instead of the usual warning to switch phones off before screenings, audiences will be asked to keep them turned on to experience what the company promoting the film says will be the world's first-ever smartphone 4D effects. Full details of the effects are not being released, but there are hints that the app may also become active outside of screenings, and users may get calls from the ghostly Sadako herself.

Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, Sadako 3D 2 -- set five years after Sadako 3D -- stars Miori Takimoto as a clinical psychologist raising her four-year-old niece, whose mother died in childbirth. The cursed online video clip reappears, and strange things begin to occur around the young girl.

Ring author Kôji Suzuki tackled the writing duties on this latest entry and is the only reason we're even moderately interested in this could-be abomination.

Synopsis
Fuko Ando (Miori Takimoto), a 24-year-old graduate student in psychology, is tasked to care for her 4-year-old niece. Soon mysterious events begin to occur around her niece. Fuko Ando then learns of an incident involving a cursed video that took place five years earlier and soon finds herself involved with the cursed video.

As we told you late last week, AMC is airing a 4th of July marathon of "The Walking Dead" Seasons 1-3 that will also include new footage from the upcoming Season 4, and we now have a preview of the event to share.

Starting Thursday, July 4th, at 1PM/12c, AMC invites viewers to tune in to "The Walking Dead Season 4 Preview Weekend" and catch up on the series that has been hailed by USA Today as "one of the season's best series" and reigns as the number one show in delivery for adults 18-49. "The Walking Dead" marathon will be hosted by "Comic Book Men" executive producer Kevin Smith from the Atlanta-based set, where the cast are currently filming Season 4 of the hit series. Smith talks to the cast and crew and shares behind-the-scenes footage from the highly anticipated upcoming fourth season.

The first season of "The Walking Dead" airs twice on July 4th, featuring marathons of both the original and special black-and-white editions. These are followed by Season 2 on Friday, July 5th, and Season 3 on both Saturday and Sunday, July 6th and 7th. Each day of this four-day event begins at 1PM/12c. Synopsis

The October 22nd LA Goblin show went on sale on Saturday, June 29th, and sold out immediately, so a second show has been added for Wednesday, October 23rd. Read on for the details.

The October 23rd show will feature a rare 35mm screening of Dario Argento's TENEBRAE (the October 22nd show features DEEP RED). Playing Los Angeles for the first time in their 40-year history, Goblin will perform a full, live set pulled from their most iconic scores, including: Dario Argento's giallo classics Suspiria, Tenebrae, and Deep Red and George A. Romero's seminal Dawn of the Dead. Immediately following Goblin's performance will be an incredibly rare 35mm screening of Argento's 1982 TENEBRAE.

The lineup for this tour will include original members since 1975 Claudio Simonetti and Maurizio Guarini (keyboards) and Massimo Morante (guitar). The band is rounded out by drummer Titta Tani and bassist Bruno Previtali that joined in 2010.

The event will take place inside the auditorium of the Egyptian Theatre. To celebrate Goblin's first show in Los Angeles, Beyond Fest is producing a limited edition poster designed by seminal UK artist Graham Humphreys. A fan favorite of the band, Graham's poster will be made available exclusively at the show.

Tickets for this event are only available online from Brown Paper Tickets. They will go on sale at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. No tickets will be sold at the box office or on Fandango for this event. It is expected that this show will also sell out immediately.

General Admission is $33.50; VIP is $78.50. Only 60 VIP tickets will be sold in total. VIP admission includes access to the band's soundcheck, pre-show meet and greet with the band, commemorative event poster signed by Graham Humphreys, and first entry into the theatre for the live performance and TENEBRAE screening.
