Alfred Hitchcock's genre defining classic Psycho has been getting A LOT of love lately and deservedly so. With "Bates Motel" already a hit series and numerous books and projects about Hitch and his flicks, there's never been a better reason to go a little mad sometimes. Case in point...

Uncork’d Entertainment proudly announces the multi-platform release of Byron Turk’s (Storm Chasers, Flipping Boston) The Bates Haunting, dubbed by the director as “Scream meets Scooby Doo”. The indie thriller was shot in rural Pennsylvania at Arasapha Farm’s original Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride, one of America’s top Halloween attractions. The Bates Haunting will be available August 6 for rental and digital and available for sale on DVD a few months later.

“I’m a huge fan of the many haunted house attractions around the country,” commented Uncork’d Entertainment’s Keith Leopard. “When I saw The Bates Haunting and discovered that it was actually filmed at a real haunted house and hayride in Pennsylvania, I wanted to be a part of getting this film out to the public. I think everyone will enjoy this movie as it reminds me of the fun horror films I saw in the theaters growing up before the advent of home video.”

Agnes Rickover (Jean Louise O’Sullivan; Valley Peaks, Bullrun) visited the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride looking for some Halloween fear and fun. Instead, she witnessed a tragedy: the fiery death of her best friend Lily making her dramatic debut on the Hayride. After a year spent obsessing over the horrible accident, Agnes takes a job at the Haunted Hayride, hoping to face her trauma and exorcise her demons. She thinks this could be an investigative opportunity as well, and when her new co-workers end up victims of mysterious accidents, she knows it is. With her new sidekick Clyde, Agnes must figure out who – or what – is behind all of this mayhem before more people die.

The film co-stars Zachary Fletcher in his debut starring role as Junior Bates and the late Ryan Dunn. Featuring a wild cast of characters ranging from ghouls and goblins to an overzealous chainsaw-wielding theater actor, The Bates Haunting is part haunt, part hunt, full of spirits and the spirited! Agnes and Clyde are facing certain death – their only escape route through a crowd of entertained customers who think it’s just a show, but for them it’s a scary, shocking showdown!

Dead Before Dawn 3D, the third feature film from April Mullen and Tim Doiron’s production company WANGO Films, will be available on Video On Demand and digital HD beginning August 2 in the U.S. and Canada. The film will also be released in theaters in 3D across Canada on August 2 and select theaters across the U.S. on September 6.

Producer Bubba Fish dropped us a line to let us know that his latest project, the horror comedy Clinger, has achieved its crowd-funding goal and is officially on its way! Read on for more!

"We are excited to announce exclusively to Dread Central that Vincent Martella (Role Models, 'Everybody Hates Chris,''Phineas and Ferb') has been cast in the lead role of Robert Klingher in the horror-comedy Clinger," says Fish.

Adds co-writer/director Michael Steves, "Vincent has exhibited a fluency in both quirky comedies with shows like 'Phineas and Ferb' and 'Everybody Hates Chris' as well as grittier dramas with his compelling episode of 'The Mentalist.' That versatility made him a perfect fit for the character of Robert, a character who is equal parts hilarious and terrifying."

Martella tells us, "I'm really excited to get to be a part of Clinger. Playing Robert will definitely be a lot of fun while I get to work with a lot of great filmmakers. Being involved in this genre is something I'm really looking forward to."

Vincent Martella will play opposite Jennifer Laporte, a native Houstonian and new talent. Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5) and Debbie Rochon have also signed on to the film, which began production in Houston on July 20th.

Clinger follows Fern Petersen, a high school senior trying to move on with her life after her overly affectionate boyfriend Robert Klingher is decapitated in an embarrassing accident. When Robert returns from the dead as a romantically frustrated ghost, he plots to kill Fern so they can be together forever.

Clinger is a heartfelt, raunchy break-up comedy with an over-the-top horror twist. The film's style is in the vein of 80's horror-comedy splatterfests like the original Fright Night and Evil Dead II. Mel House (Psychic Experiment, Imago) has signed on as associate producer on the film. Gabi Chennisi serves as both co-writer and director of photography; Bubba Fish is producing. The film is already backed by over 140 donors on Kickstarter and has well exceeded its fundraising goal.

In the film Robert curses a collection of Valentine's teddy bears to attack--one of which rips a character's heart out with its vicious fangs. Dig on a photo of one of these animatronic bears by Phil Nichols (Bigfoot Wars, Black Lagoon), who will be doing practical FX work on the film.

Image Entertainment, an RLJ Entertainment brand, has announced the DVD release of Do Not Disturb on August 6, 2013, at an SRP of $27.97. Read on for details and artwork.

The Crying Dead involves paranormal research in a haunted psychiatric hospital. In 2008 six filmmakers break into and search the abandoned Ettersburgh Psychiatric Hospital for signs of ghosts. Pressure from the studio demands an exciting show, and this film crew will go to any lengths and to any depths to find evidence of ghostly visits. The spirits of three young girls who were murdered in this hospital wait for them in the bowels of this derelict building. During the first night, vague apparitions became violent hauntings. Chris (Chris Hayes), Jeff (Jeff Stearns), Becka (Becka Adams), Angelina (Angelina Lyubomirova), Callie (Callie Cameron), and Andrew (Andrew Olson) will have to battle with these spirits, and each other, if they are to escape this hellish location.

For fans of supernatural thrillers here are the release details for The Crying Dead: The film’s DVD artwork focuses on the three girls who haunt the film crew as well as showing one of the dark halls of the Ettersburgh Hospital. The official trailer for the release shows many of the practical effects from the film. In addition to a DVD release through online retailers including Amazon (pre-order yours from the EvilShop below), The Crying Dead will also be available on VOD and at Redbox kiosks in September.

Fantastic Fest 2013 kicks off in mid-September, and the first wave of programming includes some familiar titles along with Man of Tai Chi star and director Keanu Reeves on the red carpet.

Synopsis
When a group of young friends commemorating their high school graduation take a trip to the remote Black Lake, their celebration turns into a nightmare with the sudden appearance of a bloodthirsty, underwater predator. What is it about pot farming that's become so damned dangerous? It all started with Jason Voorhees protecting his greens in the Friday the 13th remake, and then there's the whole damned crazy town in "Bates Motel." And now? Now Welcome to Willits!

According to Deadline, Mark Webber (pictured; Bomb the System, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) is set to star in and exec produce indie horror/sci-fi flick Welcome to Willits, which Metamorphic Films and Real Horror Show Pictures have slated for an October production start.

Webber plays pot farmer Brock, who along with some unlucky campers runs into mysterious creatures in the Northern California woods that are responsible for several abductions and attacks. The project is described as capturing a throwback feel with a dash of comedy mixed in with the horror.

Willits will film in LA and Kern County’s Sequoia National Forest under helmers Trevor Ryan and Tim Ryan, aka the Ryan Brothers, who wrote and will direct the movie together. Teresa Zales will produce for Transmedia Content and management company Metamorphic Films alongside Tim Ryan’s Real Horror Show Pictures. The team has tapped Monster FX’s Ron Karkosa and Mark Villalobos to handle creature design and special effects.

During the SDCC roundtables for "The Vampire Diaries," we chatted with most of the stars in attendance, but per usual the bulk of our info came from the show's executive producer, in this case Caroline Dries.

Candice Accola – Caroline
- She's excited about Caroline going to college because Candice herself never went.
- Last season began with a dark tone, but this new season starts lighter because a lot of the characters are not aware of the new threat.
- There may be possibilities for Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline to cross paths again, but right now the producers want both shows to stand on their own.

Nina Dobrev – Elena
- Nina had one piece of advice to Paul Wesley upon learning that he’ll be playing two characters also: "Sleep now while you still can!"

Ian Somerhalder – Damon
- The producers are trying to dial down the darkness of the show, tone-wise and color-wise. So for Season 5 they are returning to the interactions among the characters like in earlier seasons and not just depending on big action and explosions.

Paul Wesley – Stefan
- Stefan is having hallucinations under the water.
- Silas is impersonating Stefan very well, at least at the beginning, but eventually it’ll be very apparent who’s who.

Caroline Dries – Executive Producer
- They create their own mythology but try to ground their ideas on the already existing concept. So the idea of Silas was conceived from the devil serpent.
- They rejected the Dracula idea because it was too literal and the fans probably would make fun of it.
- Even though Damon was turned human in the books, the producers didn’t think there’d be much stakes resulting from it after the audience got over the initial shock. They also didn’t want to see Damon stop killing people. So they decided on Katherine because while she makes the best vampire, she would make the worst human.
- In the first episode in Season 5, Katherine will try to get turned back into a vampire, but that cannot happen anymore for her.
- Katherine continues to be bitchy, conniving and manipulative even though now she is a human that can get sick, be hurt and killed.
- Last season there were too many characters and storylines, and since "The Originals" have their own show, "TVD" has finished telling all the stories about the Originals on this show.
- Crossovers will happen, but it's hard to coordinate the storylines of both shows far enough ahead of time to work together. However, both shows’ offices are located next to each other so...
- In the show no one knows Bonnie has died, and eventually the audience will see what the other side looks like from Bonnie’s point of view.
- Right now the producers have no immediate plans to bring Bonnie back to life. The reason they killed Bonnie was because they had run the gamut of storylines to put a witch through that are not clichéd.
- The doppelganger mythology will unfold this year, and the audience will learn why Stefan is Silas’ doppelganger.
- We can expect some flashbacks about Silas, especially in Episode 5.03.
- Having taken over Stefan’s identity, Silas manages to fool everyone, but Damon should catch on soon because he knows his brother so well.

Synopsis
GRAVITY, directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar® winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth… and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Attention, New Zealand... Get a grip, will ya? According to Deadline, New Zealand’s Office of Film and Literature Classification says Maniac can be shown only if it’s being used in a tertiary media, a film studies course, or screened as part of a festival. It cannot and will not be shown theatrically.

The ruling also means the film cannot be released on DVD. The ban beyond festival screenings “is an insult to the intelligence of the adult population of New Zealand and does little more than to serve as an open invitation to illegally pirate the film. We are flabbergasted,” said Neil Foley of Melbourne, Australia-based distributor Monster Pictures.

In a blog post, Monster said it will “explore every option” to have the ban revoked, “but at this stage it ain’t looking good.” Maniac is the first film to receive the festival-only classification since Eric Steel’s suicide documentary The Bridge in 2007.

The prolific Patrick Rea (Nailbiter) has released a new short film, and we have info on that along with two other projects he has in the works: Enclosure and Get Back Joe.

Rea's new short film, titled “Vindicate,” stars Michael Joiner and Aaron Laue and is part of the Kansas City-based web series Withered World. The web series, created by Bryce Young, is set on the last day of the Earth with each episode showing a different story by separate directors. "Vindicate," written and directed by Rea, follows a man who seeks revenge for the death of his family while the world is a ticking clock.

We previously told you about Get Back Joe, which Rea is developing with Blanc/Biehn Productions, and now have a few more details. With a story by Rea and Lony Ruhmann, Get Back Joe deals with technology that allows its users to travel back in time using astral projection. Joe must attempt to travel to specific dates that have been blocked by the government in order to save his family. Production is set to begin in July 2014 based on a screenplay penned by Rea and Michelle Davidson.

Lastly, because he's just not busy enough, Rea is also in pre-production on Enclosure, which is aiming to shoot principal photography in Kansas and Missouri in October. The feature film about a married couple trapped inside a tent with a mysterious stranger while ferocious creatures wait for them outside is also co-written by Rea and Davidson.

Synopsis

Fresh off a successful appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con (read all about that here), filming of "Bates Motel" Season 2 kicks off this week, and we have some casting news to share.

Per TVLine, Michael Vartan ("Alias,"Rogue, " Hawthorne") has been cast as a new romantic interest for Norma (played by Emmy nominee Vera Farmiga). His recurring character, George, is a charming divorcé who catches Norma’s eye.

George is just one of three new roles the show is introducing in Season 2, the others being Christine, a local socialite in her late 30s who becomes Norma’s first real friend, and Caleb, Norma’s estranged fortysomething brother, so expect additional updates soon!

On July 16th Kevin Smith tweeted that he'd finished the first draft of a new horror script called Tusk, and now, also via Twitter, Smith has announced that the film is in pre-production. Talk about moving fast!

Per The Journalist, Smith and producer Scott Mosier first discussed the concept of Tusk as a joke during an episode of their popular podcast series "Smodcast," entitled "The Walrus and The Carpenter," after reading a Gumtree ad from a man looking for a lodger that stated:

“To take on the position as my lodger you must be prepared to wear the walrus suit for approximately two hours each day (in practice, this is not two hours every day – I merely state it here so you are able to have a clear idea of the workload). Whilst in the walrus costume you must be a walrus – there must be no speaking in a human voice, and any communication must entail making utterances in the voice of a walrus.”

The idea grew after Smith began to write a script for the horror film, inspired by ideas he and Mosier pitched during the podcast and the overwhelming support the movie got from listeners who tweeted at the filmmaker #WalrusYes. The film’s development was then discussed at length during the episode "Chicken of the Sea," wherein the director mentioned he had been in contact with his Red State star Michael Parks about a possible role in the film. A week later, as is typical for Smith, he confirmed that Tusk is now a reality via Twitter:
