Dead Snow was a surprise hit when it premiered at Sundance several years ago, so it only seems right that its sequel, the horridly titled Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, will rise up at the same cinematic place as its predecessor.

Martin Starr (This Is the End), Ingrid Haas (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), and Jocelyn Deboer ("Inside Amy Schumer") all have roles in the film, which will pick up where the first one left off.

Synopsis:
Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead follows the sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack who battles an even larger army of Zombies with the help of The Zombie Squad, a professional gang of zombie killers from the U.S.

You may have noticed Uncle Creepy posting lots of imagery from films playing at Sundance 2014 earlier today, and now we have the full announcement of which horror projects are included in the Spotlight and Park City at Midnight lineups.

As mentioned when posting the first wave of films screening this year, it's sometimes difficult to tell exactly what's horror-related, so below are our best guesses of what we'll be covering from this latest batch or are films that sound just fringey enough that we'll be keeping our eyes on them:

SPOTLIGHT

Blue Ruin / U.S.A. (Director and screenwriter: Jeremy Saulnier) — A mysterious outsider’s quiet life turns upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. Proving to be an amateur assassin, he winds up in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family. Cast: Macon Blair, Amy Hargreaves, Sidné Anderson, Devin Ratray, Kevin Kolack.

The Double / United Kingdom (Director: Richard Ayoade, Screenwriter: Avi Korine) — Jesse Eisenberg plays Simon, a timid and isolated man who is overlooked at work. When James, a new coworker arrives, he upsets the balance because he is both Simon’s physical double and his opposite: confident and good with women. Then James slowly starts taking over Simon’s life. Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, Cathy Moriarty, James Fox.

Only Lovers Left Alive / U.S.A. (Director and screenwriter: Jim Jarmusch) — Set against the desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, depressed by the direction the world is taking, reunites with his lover. Their love story has endured for centuries, but the woman’s uncontrollable sister disrupts their idyll. Can these wise outsiders continue to survive as the world collapses around them? Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin, Jeffrey Wright.

Stranger by the Lake / France (Director and screenwriter: Alain Guiraudie) — Frank spends his summer searching for companionship at a lake in France. He meets Michel, an attractive, mysterious man and falls blindly in love. When a death occurs, Frank and Michel become the primary suspects. Stranger by the Lake is an erotic thriller testing the limits of sexual desire. Cast: Pierre Deladonchamps, Christophe Paou, Patrick d’Assumçao.

PARK CITY AT MIDNIGHT

The Babadook / Australia (Director and screenwriter: Jennifer Kent) — A single mother, plagued by the violent death of her husband, battles with her son’s fear of a monster lurking in the house but soon discovers a sinister presence all around her. Cast: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West, Ben Winspear.

Cooties / U.S.A. The Guest / U.S.A. (Director: Adam Wingard, Screenwriter: Simon Barrett) — A soldier on leave befriends the family of a fallen comrade. He soon becomes a threat to everyone around him when it’s revealed he’s not who he says he is. Cast: Dan Stevens, Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Chase Williamson, Brendan Meyer.

Killers / Japan, Indonesia (Directors: The Mo Brothers, Screenwriters: Timo Tjahjanto, Takuji Ushiyama) — Two serial killers post their violent crimes online in a psychotic battle for notoriety. It soon becomes clear that they will square off with one another face to face. Cast: Kazuki Kitamura, Oka Antara, Rin Takanashi, Luna Maya, Ray Sahetapy.

The Signal / U.S.A. (Director: William Eubank, Screenwriters: William Eubank, Carlyle Eubank, David Frigerio) — Three college students disappear under mysterious circumstances while tracking a computer hacker through the Southwest. Cast: Laurence Fishburne, Brenton Thwaites, Olivia Cooke, Beau Knapp.

What We Do in the Shadows / New Zealand, U.S.A. (Directors and screenwriters: Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement) — This mockumentary follows the struggles of a group of New Zealand–based vampires to understand modern society and adapt to the ever-changing world around them. Cast: Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Jonny Brugh, Cori Gonzales-Macuer, Stu Rutherford.

Finally, after 9 episodes, Season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries" has started cookin'. Here's a preview of the show's mid-season finale, "Fifty Shades of Grayson," along with a few stills, including one of a very agitated Elena.

DAMON’S PAST RETURNS TO HAUNT HIM — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) realizes Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in danger and enlists Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) help to find her. The brothers pay a visit to Aaron (guest star Shaun Sipos), and Damon shocks Stefan by revealing his first-hand knowledge of Aaron’s family.

In an attempt to stop Damon, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) unleashes his secret weapon, forcing Damon to deal with a part of his past he thought was gone forever, as well as the consequences of his decades-long plan for revenge.

Meanwhile, Elena is horrified by Dr. Wes’ confessions about the dark history of Whitmore College and his own ultimate goal.

Finally, a frantic Katherine (Nina Dobrev) turns to Matt (Zach Roerig) for help, until she realizes that Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) may be the one who can solve her problem.

From writer/director Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies), the upcoming thriller starring Adam Wingard (You're Next), Simon Barrett (You're Next), Sophia Takal (V/H/S), and Helen Rogers (V/H/S) entitled 24 Exposures releases in select theaters and VOD on Friday, January 24, 2014, via IFC Midnight.

Synopsis
Fetish photographer Billy (Wingard) stages elaborate shoots around his fixations, photographing women in various stages of undress and death. When one of Billy's models winds up actually dead, depressed and romantically disillusioned investigator Michael (Barrett), suffering through a crumbling relationship himself, knocks on his door and discovers a world he struggles to understand - in Billy's art, as well as his apparent ease at juggling professional and intimate relationships with a committed girlfriend and various models. Jealousy runs high, and meanwhile, a killer is still on the loose.

The UK is well known for its censorship and ban of the so-called Video Nasties. Good thing for us Severin and Nucleus Films are putting out a comprehensive guide of them!

VIDEO NASTIES will be followed up by GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS VOLUME 1, and more will be released throughout 2014.

"Sleepy Hollow" returns on Monday night with Episode 1.10, "The Golem," and Fox has provided a sneak peek that includes commentary by star Tom Mison and writer/co-exec producer Jose Molina.

Guest starring in the episode are a returning John Noble as Henry Parrish, Amandla Stenberg as Macey Irving, and Jill Marie Jones as Cynthia Irving.

Synopsis

Two more people have signed on for recurring roles in FX's upcoming "The Strain" adaptation: "Southland" and "24" alum Regina King and "Continuum" star Melanie Merkosky. Read on for the details.

Per Deadline, King (pictured) will play Ruby Wain, the smart and accomplished manager of philandering rock star Gabriel Bolivar (Jack Kesy), while Merkosky will play Jim Kent's (Sean Astin) wife Sylvia, who is suffering from cancer. Really? Cancer? A vampire outbreak isn't enough tragedy?

In any event, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (co-authors of the novel on which the show is based) co-wrote the pilot, which del Toro also directed. Carlton Cuse serves as showrunner and writer. Gary Ungar executive produces the FX Productions series.

The story centers on Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

"The Strain," aiming for a July 2014 debut for its 13-episode first season, also stars Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez.

A brand spanking new clip from Jim Jarmusch’s toothy tale of lust and vampires, Only Lovers Left Alive, is here just in time for the film's premiere at next year's Sundance Film Festival so crank it up and dance along!

Only Lovers Left Alive stars Tilda Swinton as Eve, a grungy but erudite vampire who's married to a forlorn vampire musician, Adam, played by Tom Hiddleston. Several-hundred-year-old Adam (of Biblical fame) has been living quite happily ever since being expelled from the Garden of Eden--that is, until the 21st century came along with its excesses and greed and pushed him into a full-flung existential crisis. He cracks and orders a wooden bullet to kill himself.

Adam and Eve are not about blood-sucking and murder but are refined lovers of literature, science, music, and learning in general. When Eve's estranged sister (Mia Wasikowska) "drinks" Ian, a friend, to death, Eve tells her off, saying that in the 21st century people won't understand such barbarity. It's not like they can just dump the bodies in the Thames with the tuberculosis sufferers like in old times, she says. Now, in the 21st century, they get their blood from the transfusion section of a hospital. Alongside this, John Hurt plays a vampire Christopher Marlowe, who's still bitter that Shakespeare became more famous.

In the film vampires elegantly cover their mouths and have a strange ritual with gloves that goes unexplained, but at heart it's the story of Adam and Eve, who try to rekindle their love despite living in different places, he in Detroit and she in Tangiers. It is as touching as it is odd. The love story between immortal beings also raised philosophical questions for leading man Hiddleston, who said playing Adam was a "fascinating prospect"— a chance to break away from his more conventional superhero roles like Loki in Marvel Studios'Thor films. "The idea of exploring love in the context of immortality — is (it) a blessing because it recurs, and what does that do to your commitments?"he said.

It took Jarmusch seven years to find a backer, and he explains why: "I wanted to make a vampire love story... The reason it took so long was that no one wanted to give us the money. It's getting more and more and more difficult for films that are maybe a little unusual or not predictable or not satisfying the expectations of everybody — which is the beauty of cinema, discovering new films of all forms."

As he always promised he would, The Terminator came back in a big way this year with announcements regarding both a big screen reboot, set for 2015, and even a series of upcoming video games...

Continuing its dominance over all forms of media, The Terminator is also headed to the small screen. Too good to be true? Well, it's true. Read on!

As reported by Variety, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures — the shingles behind Paramount’s Terminator reboot — have teamed to develop a fresh Terminator television series, hiring X-Men: First Class scribes Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller to write and executive produce.

Not only will the show have an intersecting narrative with the big screen reboot, but it will also tie in with the original Terminator. The project is said to follow a critical moment from the first film — where the film’s story goes one way, the show will take that same moment in a completely different direction.

Megan Ellison of Annapurna will produce the TV series with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross of Skydance. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are on board as executive producers.

Lauzirika also wrote the screenplay with Robert Lawton and produced the film with Robert Green. Scott Robinson and Marissa Neiman co-produced the project, which shot in Detroit.

Synopsis
Aiden (Josh Lawson) fantasizes about a better life away from his gruesome job as a crime scene photographer working alongside his detective friend Pete (Ron Perlman)--a heroic life where he falls in love with the perfect woman and dispenses justice on the hard streets of Detroit. When he meets the alluring young Virginia (Emma Lung) and steals a gun from a crime scene, the line between his darkest fantasies and reality begins to blur... with deadly consequences.

Back in October we told you about a new Warner Bros. project called San Andreas, an earthquake flick penned by Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes (The Conjuring) and starring none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Today a release date has been announced.

The Rock and the earthquake are set to collide in 2015, with a planned June 5th release.

The project has been in development since 2011 with New Line-based Beau Flynn producing through his FlynnPictureCo. banner with Tripp Vinson. Brad Peyton is attached to direct.

The story takes place when a massive quake strikes California and centers on one man who must make the treacherous journey across the state to rescue his estranged daughter. Carlton Cuse and Allan Loeb previously wrote San Andreas scripts after the team of Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio sold the pitch and wrote the first two drafts.
