They’re back – and shark happens! Syfy and The Asylum today announced that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will reprise their roles as Fin and April in the eagerly awaited Sharknado sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One.

The sequel begins filming in New York on February 13th and is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in July. Anthony Ferrante will once again direct a screenplay by Thunder Levin, who also wrote Sharknado, the iconic pop culture sensation which chainsawed its way through social media last summer.

In Sharknado 2: The Second One, a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin and April can save the Big Apple.

Said Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy: “Sharknado was an extraordinary ‘perfect storm’ which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team – and dropping sharks onto New York’s iconic sites – we’re unleashing yet another ‘fin’ wave of shark-mania.”

Added Paul Bales, COO, The Asylum: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit. Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”

The Asylum and Syfy have struck a deal with legendary casting director Mike Fenton and his partner Ann Frederick, of Fenton-Frederick Casting, to supervise cameo casting.

This summer Scream Factory will be releasing special editions of Final Exam, Evilspeak, Nosferatu (1979), Sleepaway Camp, Ravenous, Dog Soldiers, Hellhole, Deadly Eyes, Ginger Snaps, and Phantom of the Paradise. Will you still have room in your Blu-ray budget for Lake Placid?

For that matter, do you even care about owning Steve Miner’s 1999 crocodilian horror comedy written by David E. Kelley? Even as a fan of nature gone amok movies, I found foul-mouthed Betty White to be about the only memorable aspect of Lake Placid.

Clearly a lot of you enjoyed it more than me. How else to explain all those Syfy-produced sequels?

Those of you that dug Lake Placid should be thrilled that Scream Factory’s latest surprise announcement is their intention to release a Collector’s Edition Lake Placid Blu-ray sometime this summer. Here’s what they had to say on Facebook:

The crocodile-chompin’- Betty-White-swearin’ film LAKE PLACID will be coming from us as a Collector’s Edition this summer, which also marks its first time on Blu-ray! Released in 1999 and directed by Steve Miner (Friday the 13th Parts 2 & 3, Halloween: H20), this humorous take on the tried-and-true menacing reptile story stars Bridget Fonda (Single White Female), Bill Pullman (The Serpent and the Rainbow) and Oliver Platt (2012). Also notable, the film was written by famous TV producer/screenwriter David E. Kelley ("Ally McBeal,""L.A. Law,""Boston Legal").

While we can’t provide a street date at this time, expect this to drop in mid-summer. Pre-order links should go up in sometime in April. Look for a full list of extras sometime in May. New key art is also coming soon too, but the image you see here – the original theatrical poster – will be on the reverse.

Scream Factory swears they’re not done announcing summer release titles. Somewhere DeepStar Six, Man’s Best Friend, and Bats have to be looking at this Lake Placid news and wondering, “Am I next?”

Reed (pictured) will star in director Kelvin Tong’s (Rule #1) suspenseful new horror film, EMAIL, which is being produced by SPJ Enterprises, zgreen entertainment, and Boku Films. Peter Poon and Zachary Green are producing along with Leon Tong and Kat Goh in Singapore.

Jason Shuman, who produced such horror hits as The Messengers and Darkness Falls, will be executive producing with Lauren Selig. Principal photography is set to begin May 2014 in Singapore, and Highland Film Group (HFG) will handle worldwide sales and introduce the title to buyers at EFM in Berlin.

Synopsis:
In the vein of The Ring and The Grudge, young journalist Thea Hartley travels to Singapore to investigate the mysterious circumstances of her sister’s death and discovers a string of bizarre killings involving a cursed email. Along the way she meets Ted, an ex-pat technology reporter, and together they face the supernatural forces and unravel a mysterious conspiracy far bigger than they expected.

"The Following" star Shawn Ashmore says that the upcoming Episode 2.03, "Trust Me," will feature the series' most shocking twist yet, taking Season 2 "into new directions." Check out this sneak peek for clues of what's ahead.

The clip comes from E! Online, who also spoke with writer and supervising producer Alexi Hawley, who teased, "Joe's crossed a line he can't uncross" after killing the reverend in last week's episode, his first murder in months.

A new red band trailer for Under the Skin, a sci-fi thriller that stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien seductress, has arrived; and we have every extraterrestrial pixel of it right here for your perusal.

In the film, written by Walter Campbell and directed by Jonathan Glazer, Johansson's character scours remote highways and back roads in Scotland for human prey.

Under the Skin, based on the novel by Michel Faber, arrives April 4th so expect more soon.

Filmed in 1959 and released in 1961, Bloodlust – starring Robert Reed ("The Brady Bunch,""The Defenders"), June Kenney (Earth vs. the Spider), Joan Lora (Sorority Girl), and Eugene Persson (Earth vs. the Spider, The Party Crashers) – was featured on "Mystery Science Theater 3000" in 1994, quickly becoming a cult classic.

In this thrilling drama, a group of young adults on a boat excursion become the prey of a sadistic hunter when the two couples come across an uncharted tropical island, which they soon find is inhabited by a wealthy recluse and his staff.

While their host is initially hospitable, the four investigate and find themselves in the clutches of Dr. Albert Balleau (Wilton Graff; Lili, Lust for Life), whose hobby is hunting both animals and humans. He quickly reveals his true purpose: to hunt down and kill each of his visitors, as he has done with everyone unlucky enough to set foot on his island.

Writer/director Richard Parry's A Night in the Woods stars Anna Skellern, Scoot McNairy, and Andrew Hawley. Look for it on Blu-ray and DVD on February 11th.

The 1954 classic Godzilla is one of the most influential monster films of all time. For its 60th anniversary in 2014, Rialto Pictures will re-release the restored Japanese original envisioned by writer/director Ishiro Honda and SFX legend Eiji Tsuburaya including 40 minutes cut from the US release version. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or have yet to witness the original, uncut masterpiece, now is the perfect time to see how the epic saga began.

Afterwards join a Q&A with Gareth Edwards (2010’s Monsters), director of the new Godzilla from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

Drafthouse Films has blessed us with some new eye candy for Ben Wheatley's (Kill List) new film, A Field in England, and we have all the goodies right here for you cats who are waiting for the proverbial 5 o'clock whistle.

Synopsis
Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has acquired North American rights to original horror film A Field in England, the fourth feature film from writer/director Ben Wheatley. The film stars Reece Shearsmith ("The League of Gentlemen") and Kill List's Michael Smiley and features Julian Barrett ("The Mighty Boosh") in a small role.

Billed as "a psychedelic trip into magic and madness," A Field in England follows a group of English Civil War soldiers in the 17th century who are captured by an alchemist and led into a vast mushroom field, where they fall victim to violent and nightmarish forces.

Look for it on VOD February 7th.

The film Funny Games may have divided the DC staff, but one thing we all agreed on: Its young star Michael Pitt was quite impressive, and we're thrilled to report he's joining NBC's "Hannibal" in a major role.

Per EW, Pitt ("Boardwalk Empire,"Seven Psychopaths) is playing the character of Mason Verger, an unstable wealthy patient of Dr. Hannibal Lecter who begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the deadly serial killer. The previously announced Katharine Isabelle will play Verger’s sister, Margo.

The Mason Verger role will be introduced late in the upcoming second season. Gary Oldman previously played an older version of Mason Verger in the 2001 Hannibal film, which is based on Thomas Harris’ Hannibal novel. NBC’s "Hannibal" timeline precedes the events in the film and is also set before the events in Thomas’ Red Dragon so this is Mason how we’ve never seen him before.

“Hannibal” stars Mads Mikkelsen as brilliant psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who is working with the FBI and gifted criminal profiler Will Graham, played by Hugh Dancy, to look into the mind of serial killers. The series also stars Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit.

Caroline Dhavernas and Hettienne Park co-star, and Season 2 guest stars include a returning Gillian Anderson, Eddie Izzard, and Raul Esparza along with other newcomers Jeremy Davies, Jonathan Tucker, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Amanda Plummer.

The second season of the critically acclaimed “Hannibal” will contain 13 episodes, beginning with “Kaiseki,” premiering Friday, February 28th, following "Grimm."

With Will still in custody for the murder of Abigail, Dr. Lecter steps in to help when bodies wash up on a riverbank. The big question is whether or not Dr. Bloom will be able to help Will regain his memories.

When it gets cooking, the Hollywood movie machine works FAST! For the past several weeks we've been talking about Annabelle, the spin-off film from last year's wildly successful chiller The Conjuring, and now today we're happy to announce that it's already filming!

Variety Reports that Alfre Woodard (pictured) has joined the production of Annabelle, New Line’s spinoff of The Conjuring, which began shooting this week in Los Angeles.

Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) and Ward Horton are starring in the film with John Leonetti, the cinematographer on The Conjuring, directing from a script by Gary Dauberman. Eric Ladin and Brian Howe co-star.

The Conjuring included a haunted doll named Annabelle as part of a collection of demonic objects assembled by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

If you often find yourself itching to see a modern Scandinavian werewolf movie, then you're in luck because such a movie is getting ready to sink its teeth into our collective flesh. Read on for all the details about this Party Animal!

As per Variety, LA-based XYZ Films has boarded the werewolf flick, which is co-penned by Dead Snow co-writer Stig Frode Henriksen. Cult Norwegian genre scribe-helmer Patrik Syversen (Hellfjord) will direct.

A horror film with action and comedic beats, Party Animal centers on a disillusioned young man who arranges a bachelor party for his best friend at a locked-down location. But he has to fight for his life when it turns out that the groom is a werewolf.

The film is currently in development.

The UK's FrightFest played host to last year's premiere of The Borderlands, a British found footage flick that documents strange activity in the most holy of places. The film is now ready to spread the fear across the world, and full details of its release await!

Screen Daily reports that the movie has been sold to a host of key territories, including the US (Grindstone); Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Benelux (Pandastorm); the Middle East (Front Row); and Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia (Euro Films).

Written and directed by Elliot Goldner, The Borderlands (review here) follows a team of Vatican investigators sent to the British West Country to investigate reports of paranormal activity at a remote church.

Ben Wheatley collaborator Robin Hill (Kill List, Down Terrace) stars in the horror project, which is the first film from Metrodome’s production slate.

Metrodome will release The Borderlands in the UK on April 4.

Pretty much everything Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) touches turns to gold, so we're always infinitely more excited about any given project whenever he hops on board. If you agree, then get ready to get excited because Marshall's coming to NBC!

As per Deadline, Neil Marshall has been tapped to direct the pilot episode of NBC's drama series "Constantine" for Warner Bros. TV, which is based on the characters in DC's stories.

"Constantine" will center on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

The project was written by Daniel Cerone from a story by him and David S. Goyer.

King's first horror film, Unnerved, is his own personal take on haunted house flicks, telling the story of a couple who just can't seem to outrun an evil force.

After the mysterious death of their young son, they desperately flee to a remote lake house to escape the unrelenting haunting that is following them, only to discover that this mysterious entity is still very much a part of their lives.

Though Unnerved has been fully shot, King needs help with paying for things like sound design, music and general post-production finishing costs, and that's where you come into play. If you want to come into play, that is.
