Demon House – Director Found for Ammons Tale of Terror

Lee Daniels to Direct Demon HouseWe’ve been reporting on the strange Ammons house case for quite some time, beginning with the occurrences themselves, then “Ghost Adventures” star Zak Bagans buying the home after the family fled, and now a director is set to bring the tale to the screen.

Deadline is reporting that Lee Daniels (The Butler, The Paperboy, Precious) will be directing Demon House for Relativity Media. Bagans himself is also putting together a documentary of the same name of his experiences within the home. No word yet if both projects will retain the same title, but given the subject matter, it would make sense to have them as companion pieces.

The film is based on Latoya Ammons and her family, whose life rights made this film possible. They claim to have been victims of a demonic possession that has spanned over two years and counting. Ammons and her family have received international media attention for their accounts, which have been witnessed and documented by the Department of Child Services, the Gary (IN) Police Department, and hospital staff.

The experience began with unusual occurrences in her home over two years ago, including swarms of flies around her porch in the winter and unexplainable creaking sounds in her basement. The events progressed to possessive incidents including her oldest daughter unconsciously levitating above her bed and medical staff witnessing her middle son gliding backward on the floor, wall, and ceiling.

According to Relativity, the DCS case manager witnessed her youngest son growling with his teeth showing and eyes rolled back, locking his hands around his older brother’s throat with no recollection of the incident. Initial psychological exams and exorcism attempts failed to provide explanation or solution for the bizarre events.

Stay tuned.

New Trailer Unearthed for Ryan Nicholson’s Collar

Ryan Nicholson's Collar Nabbed for Distro by Unearthed and Plotdigger FilmsWe learned in early September that Ryan Nicholson’s “extreme horror” film Collar is heading our way on November 18th from Unearthed Films and Plotdigger Films, and in honor of the impending release, a new trailer has arrived.

Produced by Roy Nicholson, James Morgart, Adam Torkel, Emsch Cutter, and Keryn Thompson, Collar was written and directed by Ryan Nicholson.

The film stars Nick Principe (Laid to Rest 1 and 2, Seed 2: The New Breed) as a satanic derelict with a taste for human flesh who terrorizes skid row’s prostitutes, junkies, and homeless, escalating his level of violence after he abducts a rookie cop played by Aidan Dee (“Caprica,” A Dangerous Man) on a routine patrol.

Collar also stars Mackenzie Murdock (Father’s Day, Manborg), Ronald Thompson (Hanger), Momona Komagata, Wolfgang Meyer, and Mihola Terzik (Gutterballs). The soundtrack is by Protector 101.

Shot on location in Vancouver, BC, the film features a heavy assortment of gruesome FX makeup design by Michelle Grady, who previously collaborated with Nicholson on Gutterballs, Hanger, and Famine; it was lensed by Wolfgang Meyer and has the most locations, effects, and setups attempted so far by Nicholson in his full and varied career.

Synopsis:
A rookie cop (Murdock) starts her shift like any other, but soon it will all change for the worse. A derelict with a reputation of satanic violence (Principe) attacks the officer and collars her with a dog leash, which is just the start of his abusive ritual.

These would-be survivors face the nightmare of dwindling supplies, poisonous air, and the greatest threat of all – the hordes of zombie-like refugees who want in. With each dying day their choice becomes clearer – stay and let the makeshift shelter become their tomb, or face the unknown terrors of the world outside. Starring Edward Furlong, Monica Keena, Andre Royo, and C.J. Thomason, AFTERMATH takes a hard look at how far humans will go to survive. And it isn’t pretty.

ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE
Teenage outsider Maddy (Caitlin Stasey, I, Frankenstein) is keeping some dark secrets and holding a serious grudge against the captain of the Blackfoot High football team. When Maddy joins the school’s elite and powerful cheerleading squad, she convinces her new friends to help inflict her revenge. After a late-night party goes awry, their plans take an unexpected turn for the worst, and all of the girls die. A sinister, supernatural power intervenes, and the girls mysteriously appear at school the next day with a killer new look… and some unusual new appetites. “Sexy, campy, funny, subversive, angsty, and most importantly fun” (The Hollywood Reporter), ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE is a rebellious horror-comedy that redefines the genre.

THE DEVIL INCARNATE
The future looks bright for newlyweds Trevor and Holly, but their dreams are about to devolve into a nightmare of unspeakable terror. On a random visit to a tarot reader, they encounter a mysterious old woman who tells them that Holly is pregnant. But soon their joy is overshadowed by a mounting sense of dread that something sinister lurks within Holly’s womb. As the child grows within her, she begins to exhibit increasingly bizarre and violent behavior. Desperate to save his wife and unborn child, Trevor searches for answers and discovers Holly may have fallen prey to an ancient curse spawned by an evil demon with an insatiable lust for blood.

HUNTING THE LEGEND
Five years ago a deer hunter vanished in the Alabama woods, leaving behind only a rifle, bloodstains, and an enormous footprint from a species unknown to science. Now the hunter’s son, Chris; his two best friends; and a documentary film crew set out to learn the truth… and seek vengeance. Their search leads them deep into rugged terrain rumored to hide the huge, man-like beast known as Sasquatch. As they close in on their prey, they learn the horrifying consequences of Hunting the Legend.

WOLF CREEK 2
Lured by the promise of an Australian holiday, exchange student Paul visits the notorious Wolf Creek Crater. His dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when he encounters the site’s most infamous local, Mick Taylor (John Jarratt). When Paul attempts to flee, Mick pursues him across a hostile wasteland and eventually drags him back to his underground lair. After seeing the true magnitude of Mick’s monstrosity, Paul’s only hope of surviving, where no one has before, will be to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster.

doomschapelhorrorAround the middle of last year, our own Scott “Doctor Gash” Hallam spoke in depth with rising horror star Bill Oberst, Jr., and Bill mentioned that he is featured in the upcoming film The Dooms Chapel Horror.  At the time we didn’t have much info on it, but today that changes as we’re pleased to present a new trailer, several stills, and more details.

From the Press Release:
The Dooms Chapel Horror is a creature feature with heart. This tale of terror recently had its World Premiere in Paducah, Kentucky, where it played at the River’s Edge Film Festival to a packed house (see some photos from the event below).

The premiere was sold out as producer Christopher Bower brought the film back to where it was filmed. Most recently the movie has taken part in the American Film Market, where it was shown to over a dozen distributors. A release is expected in 2015.

This new extended trailer shows the conflicts housed within the town of Kaler Mills. Kyle (Austin Madding) returns to his hometown after being absent for ten years. He is there to put a family tragedy to rest. Blamed for the death of his brother, Ryan (William Ryan Watson, Stoker), he hopes to clear his name by proving that his brother’s death was an accident. But something in the woods promises to take even more from Kyle.

Indie feature The Dooms Chapel Horror tells a tale of revenge and stars Bill Oberst, Jr. (Deadly Revisions), Shaun Gerardo (X-Men: First Class), Wendy Keeling (Revelation Trail), and Joshua Mark Robinson (Burning Kentucky). The director is John William Holt, and the script was written by Jason Turner.

Synopsis:

Blamed for the death of his celebrated older brother, young Kyle Cole is tormented by members of the community to the point of no return. A secret meeting at the compound of a mysterious and dangerous man named Jordan sets the fate of the town… only to be put on hold as Kyle’s parents, succumbing to their grief, abruptly send Kyle away to be raised by distant relatives.

Now, years later, Kyle is a young man on the verge of graduating from college. He is joined by his girlfriend, Mandy, and Tanner, a young documentary filmmaker, as he travels back to Kaler Mills. He hopes to find peace with his mother and father and to finally deal with the events that caused him so much sadness and anger as a boy. But his parents are not the only ones waiting for Kyle’s return. The table is still set, and Jordan; his adopted son, Samuel; and the dark, ancient creation of Kyle’s vengeance have been waiting… and they are hungry!

As stated, all four designs are now available for pre-order at Fright-Rags.com, with products expected to ship in early December. These items may sell out during the pre-order period so don’t miss your chance to possess them.

New York’s Chamber of Horrors Presents Christmas-Themed Haunted House

xmasOne of the bummers of the Halloween season ending is that all those fun haunted attractions close up shop for another year, and I oftentimes find myself wondering why they don’t stick around and exploit other holidays for scares. After all, it’s fun being scared all year round, isn’t it?

Indeed it is, and New York-based haunted attraction Chamber of Horrors understands that and is bringing a little Halloween horror to the Christmas season this year, courtesy of a special event dubbed “A Very Scary Xmas.” Taking inspiration from Silent Night, Deadly Night, the holiday haunt will feature a killer Santa Claus, and you’d damn sure better watch out.

The event is taking place in the Long Island, NY, town of Hauppauge, which lucky for me is a stone’s throw away from my house. “A Very Scary Xmas” can be experienced on only four nights throughout December, kicking off on Friday, December 5th, and continuing the 6th, 12th, and 13th.

If you live in the Long Island area, you can find all of the info and purchase tickets over on the Chamber of Horrors website.

Even if you’re not close enough to make it, check out the trailer below, and live vicariously through its glory!

Rare Aliens Set Photos Show James Remar as Corporal Hicks

It’s always hard to imagine our favorite movies with different actors in the lead roles, which is why it’s especially fascinating to learn of original casting choices that didn’t end up working out. Take James Cameron’s Aliens, for example. It was Michael Biehn who played Corporal Hicks in the film, though Biehn wasn’t on set from day one.

A rare collection of photographs unearthed over on Reddit earlier today gives us a glimpse at what could’ve been and almost was, as it was James Remar who was originally cast to play the Colonial Marine. In fact, Remar shot a week’s worth of scenes as the character before departing over alleged creative differences with James Cameron.

It was at that point that Michael Biehn was brought in to take his place, and the rest, as they say, is horror history. The role became perhaps the most iconic of Biehn’s career, recently nabbing him an action figure from NECA. Proof that one man’s hardship is sometimes another’s treasure.

Check out the photo set below, which shows James Remar in action as Corporal Hicks!

Return of the Living Dead Ornament Covers Your Tree in Tar, Man!

Is it just me, or are there not nearly enough horror-themed Christmas ornaments out there? Sure, Hallmark released Jaws and Alien ornaments this year, but there are sadly so many other classics that will never get the treatment.

You can, however, cross Return of the Living Dead off that list, as this year marks the release of the very first Tarman ornament!

A collaboration between myself and Homemade Horror‘s Gabe LaPeer, this year’s annual Freddy In Space Christmas ornament depicts Tarman in a barrel of Trioxin, as he was the very first time we were introduced to him. Hand-sculpted and hand-painted by Gabe, the ornament is resin-cast and the canister window made out of thick Lexan.

The 2014 Freddy In Space ornament went up for grabs at 10am EST this morning and will only be available through 10am EST on Saturday, November 14th. It can be yours for just $20, and for an additional $5 you can grab a dripping tar display base, which helps you convert the ornament into a year-round collectible.

Without the base the ornament stands 3-3/4″ tall, and the bronze hook can easily be removed if you wish to display it on the base.

These ornaments are made to order and will begin shipping out early next month, guaranteed to arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. Grabs yours exclusively over in the Freddy In Space Storenvy shop!

There are few games I’ve enjoyed more than Splatterhouse. Why? Because the series doesn’t give a shit about subtlety and is all about the dark, the violent, and the disturbing. Perfect fodder for a movie. Speaking of which…

Over on the Konami news website, word has come that there’s a film in the works called Splatterhouse: Jennifer Smells of Rot that has our attention.

Splatterhouse: Jennifer Smells of Rot follows the story of the hit video game franchise Splatterhouse. Set between the first and second game, the film tells the story of Jennifer Willis. Rick (Gareth Morgan) failed to save her and has been institutionalized for his mad ramblings of a mansion full of demons and a mask of immense power and also accused of the murder of Jennifer (Jade Louise). Meanwhile the Terror Mask finds Jennifer in Hell and poses to her the question “Can you save yourself?” Jennifer dons the Terror Mask and attempts to escape from Hell and West Mansion while trying not to lose herself to the power and temptation of the Mask.

Indie filmmaker Gareth Morgan will direct, and the film is in the midst of fundraising. Click the link above for more info.

It’s hard to believe we’re already talking about things coming out in 2015, but alas, the passage of time waits for no man. Time to take a look at the upcoming fear flick Attack of the Morningside Monster.

From the Press Release:
Attack of the Morningside Monster is a feature length horror / thriller by Blue Dusk Productions starring Nicholas Brendon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Criminal Minds”) and Tiffany Shepis (Sharknado 2, Exit to Hell). The film unfolds around a brutal murder in the otherwise peaceful town of Morningside, NJ. As more bodies are discovered, Sheriff Tom Haulk and his deputy, Klara Austin, race against time on a desperate journey to catch the killer, pitting them against friends, enemies, and even each other.

Robert Pralgo (Fast & Furious 7, “The Vampire Diaries”), Catherine Taber (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Just Like Heaven), and Amber Chaney (The Hunger Games, “The Walking Dead”) also star. Michael H. Harper produced the film along with director Chris Ethridge and screenwriter Jayson Palmer.

“We are taking a character-driven approach to the time-honored tradition of the masked killer, with equal parts blood and real human emotion,” said Ethridge.

Attack of the Morningside Monster is currently available on cable and digital platforms in the Unites States and Canada. A Blu-ray / DVD release from Apprehensive Films will follow on January 20, 2015.
