On October 16th, R.L. Stine’s iconic books come to life in Goosebumps, a feature film adaptation that plucks many of the writer’s most beloved monsters off the page and tosses them up on the big screen. While we wait for the rush of joyous nostalgia, we’ve got a new clip and teaser for ya today!

Jack Black, Ken Marino, Amy Ryan, Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee, Halston Sage, Timothy Simons, Amanda Lund, and Dylan Minnette star.

In the film, directed by Rob Letterman, Black portrays famed children’s horror writer R.L. Stine, whose monsters, it turns out, are actually real. When they escape from his books and attack an unsuspecting town, it’s up to Stine and two teens to get the monsters back into their stories.

Goosebumps, which comes from a screenplay by Darren Lemke and Mike White, is produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment. Rob Letterman directs.

Synopsis:
Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

On tap right now we have a new behind-the-scenes featurette from one of the most highly anticipated horror TV shows ever… “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” Check it out and keep counting the days.

From the Press Release:
The STARZ Original series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” released a behind-the-scenes clip featuring series stars Bruce Campbell, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, and Lucy Lawless along with executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert and showrunner Craig DiGregorio. The clip offers an inside look at the highly anticipated series and reveals why Ash might be the most reluctant hero ever.

“Ash vs Evil Dead” premieres Saturday, October 31st, at 9:00pm ET/PT exclusively on STARZ with a 10-episode season.

Campbell reprises his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario, and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams; Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus,” “Xena”) as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks; Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick; Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past; and Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”) as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner.

Just as the first season of companion series “Fear the Walking Dead” comes to a close, Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” premieres Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 9/8c on AMC with a 90-minute episode. On tap tonight is the season’s full plot rundown, along with details about the premiere.

Titled “First Time Again,” the new season’s first episode is directed by Greg Nicotero and penned by Scott Gimple and Matt Negrete. In the premiere, Rick and the group are still having trouble assimilating into Alexandria. Will a new threat bring them closer together or drive them further apart?

The Walking Dead Season 6 Synopsis:
Season 5 of “The Walking Dead” saw our group being formed into consummate survivors by the world around them… nearly making some of them into villains. To make it as far as they have – to have persevered through all of their heartbreaking challenges – they have evolved into incredibly powerful people. But who have they become?

The last five episodes of Season 5 answered that question with Rick accepting an approach of unapologetic brutality in murdering Pete, a fellow Alexandrian.

Season 6 starts with Alexandria’s safety shattered by multiple threats. To make it, the people of Alexandria will need to catch up with our survivors’ hardness, while many of Rick’s people will need to take a step back from the violence and pragmatism they’ve needed to embrace. These reversals won’t happen easily or without conflict. But now Rick’s group is fighting for something more than survival…

They’re fighting for their home, and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within.

Executive producers are Robert Kirkman, showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, and Tom Luse.

“The Walking Dead” stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Christian Serratos, Josh McDermitt, Seth Gilliam, Tovah Feldshuh, Ross Marquand, Alexandra Breckenridge, and Austin Nichols. New Season 6 cast additions include Corey Hawkins, Ethan Embry, and Merritt Wever.

Vega Baby Flags Down The Man in the Orange Jacket

The Latvian film The Man in the Orange Jacket (review), directed by Aik Karapetian, which has been described as a mix between a Lars von Trier film and Alexandre Aja’s High Tension, has locked down distribution! Read on for details.

From the Press Release
Vega Baby announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights, excluding French-speaking Canada, to the critically-acclaimed horror film THE MAN IN THE ORANGE JACKET written and directed by first-time helmer Aik Karapetian. Produced by Roberts Vinovskis of Locomotive Productions in association with Jarve Studio, the picture garnered much attention on the festival circuit, including the Jury Winner for Best Director at the Fantastic Cinema Fest, as well as official selections in the Fantastic, Fantasia, BFI London and Telluride Horror film festivals. Theatrical and VOD release dates are to be announced shortly.

Man in the Orange Jacket

The film was initially screened by Vega Baby at last year’s Fantastic Fest and was well received there by both audiences and critics. Vega Baby will be returning to Fantastic Fest this year looking for acquisition titles.

When a wealthy businessman (Aris Rozentals) lays off hundreds of harbor employees, one of the fired workers (Maxim Lazarev) breaks into his home to exact revenge. After taking revenge on his boss and family, he embraces the lifestyle of his victims but soon finds their wealthy and decadent lifestyle only provides a temporary respite from the stark reality of his crimes. This feature film debut from director Aik Karapetian is an unsettling horror film that deals with themes of revenge, class struggle and madness.

Vega Baby President/CEO Adam Ripp said: “THE MAN IN THE ORANGE JACKET is an exquisite horror film that will take audiences on a frightening journey into mind of a madman. Punctuated with moments of terror, violence and insanity, THE MAN IN THE ORANGE JACKET is an elevated horror film inspired by classics like Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO.”

Karapetian is currently preparing his next film, a thriller called FIRSTBORN, which focuses on a troubled marriage. Locomotive Productions is also producing.

The feature film version of Attack on Titan (review) has been generating some monster-sized buzz, and right now we have a couple of looks behind the scenes of this mega-sized monster flick!

Attack on Titan Release Details:
FUNimation Entertainment announces the new unrated manga adaptation feature film ATTACK ON TITAN for a limited theatrical release, screening in nearly 300 theaters across the United States and Canada. In the U.S., Part 1 plays in theaters on September 30, October 1, and October 7, with Part 2 opening two weeks later on October 20, 22, and 27. In Canada, Part 1 will play in theaters on October 5 and 26, followed by Part 2 on October 22 and October 26. Tickets for all ATTACK ON TITAN playdates are now available for purchase via the movie’s official website, AttackOnTitanTheMovie.com.

“The day ATTACK ON TITAN fans across North America have been waiting for has finally arrived. This is a limited theatrical release so I encourage fans to find their nearest theater and purchase tickets to both movies now,“ said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of FUNimation. “A movie as colossal as ATTACK ON TITAN truly takes two parts to tell. Fans do not want to miss this opportunity.”

Produced by Japan’s legendary Toho Company (home of Godzilla, Mothra, etc.), the unrated ATTACK ON TITAN live-action adaptation, based on the popular graphic manga series of the same name (“Shingeki no Kyojin” in Japanese), tells the dark story of a violent world where most of humanity has been destroyed by terrifying brutal giants. The last of mankind now fights to survive behind three concentric walls – walls that were once impenetrable to the horrific giants. With more than 50 million copies in print today, ATTACK ON TITAN has also inspired four spin-off manga, as well as a 25-episode anime series which FUNimation both simulcast and released on home video in North America.

Attack on Titan

“We wanted to make sure that we could bring ATTACK ON TITAN to as many fans as possible, and we’ve put together a great network of theatrical partners to do just that,“ said Mike DuBoise, COO of FUNimation. “That said, we know ATTACK ON TITAN will draw people new to anime, as well as fans of horror and sci-fi. As we’ve seen from the tremendous response at festival screenings, this movie does not disappoint.”

Horror, sci-fi, and fantasy fans have eagerly been waiting to see ATTACK ON TITAN on the big screen, following its standing-room-only World Premiere in Los Angeles on July 14 and its two quickly sold-out screenings this summer at Montreal’s premier Fantasia Film Festival. Genre buffs and film critics have been screaming praise for ATTACK ON TITAN, with horroronscreen.com declaring, “ATTACK ON TITAN is the most impressive giant monster movie to come out in years,” and Brutal Beta raving, “When the Titans show up, it’s downright scary. Totally horrifying. I was crawling out of my skin.”

Directed by Shinji Higuchi (currently wrapping Toho’s new Godzilla film), ATTACK ON TITAN combines an epic, futuristic story with gruesome visuals to depict a frightening tale of a deadly domination of mankind, causing leading horror website Dread Central to exalt ATTACK ON TITAN as “an amazing, balls-to-the wall adventure of shock, awe, terror and human resilience. A masterpiece of mega monster movies.”

The official movie website features an easy-to-use theater locator. Tickets are limited so act quickly! Also be sure to “like” FUNimation on Facebook, and follow the company on Twitter (@funimation).

With his film The Green Room making a splash at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier has already lined up his next project. Ghostbusters Paul Feig Tells Disgruntled Fan to Go F#ck Himself

You know, if there’s one thing I can tell you about the genre fanbase, it’s that it is passionate beyond words. Apparently a very disgruntled fan upset about the remake of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters has been trolling him on Twitter for months. Finally Feig had enough.

Gotta say… Feig is only human – and we’ve all been there – so let’s not just jump all over him as we’ve never walked a mile in his shoes. There’s no need for a witch or bitch hunt, though it’s never wise to light a fire amongst your fanbase. Things like this have a tendency to become bigger than they need to be.

Paul Feig Tweet

As for said troll, we totally get where you’re coming from in terms of being disappointed that we’re not getting the movie we all thought that we would… but that doesn’t mean the new one will be terrible. Hell, it doesn’t mean that it will be good either. The point is that it’s unfair to judge a movie without seeing a single frame of film. How about we all just step back and breathe?

This too shall pass.

In the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters, Melissa McCarthy is Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig is Erin Gilbert, Leslie Jones is Patty Tolan, and Kate McKinnon is Jillian Holtzmann.

Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash-forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt the big screen on July 15, 2016.

Make a Date with The Witch

A while back a bidding war broke out during the Sundance Film Festival over The Witch, which was snapped up by A24. Today the studio has announced a release date of February 26, 2016.

In this exquisitely made and terrifying new horror film, the age-old concepts of witchcraft, black magic, and possession are innovatively brought together to tell the intimate and riveting story of one family’s frightful unraveling.

Directed and written by Robert Eggers, the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, and Lucas Dawson.

In the meantime visit the official The Witch website, “like” The Witch on Facebook, and follow The Witch on Twitter.

Synopsis:
Set in New England circa 1630, The Witch follows a farmer who get cast out of his Colonial plantation and is forced to move his family to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest rumored to be controlled by witches. Almost immediately, strange and unsettling things begin to happen–the animals turn violent, the crops fail, and one of the children disappears, only to return seemingly possessed by an evil spirit.  As suspicion and paranoia mount, everyone begins to point the finger at teenage daughter Thomasin. They accuse her of witchcraft, which she adamantly denies… but as circumstances become more and more treacherous, each family member’s faith, loyalty, and love will be tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.

Writer/director Robert Eggers’ debut feature, which premiered to great acclaim at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival (and won the Best Director Prize in the U.S. Narrative Competition), painstakingly recreates a God-fearing New England decades before the 1692 Salem witch trials, in which religious convictions and pagan folklore famously clashed. Told through the eyes of the adolescent Thomasin — in a star-making turn by newcomer Anya Taylor-Joy — and supported by mesmerizing camera work and a powerful musical score, The Witch is a chilling and groundbreaking new take on the genre.

Richard Stanley Tackles H.P. Lovecraft Tale Color Out of Space

That headline alone is enough to send shivers of delight down the spines of horror fans, and rightly so! Entertainment Weekly is reporting that indie horror company SpectreVision has confirmed that it will produce Richard Stanley’s new film, Color Out of Space, his first movie since 1992’s Dust Devil.

The film is an adaptation of famed author H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Colour Out of Space, about a meteorite that drives people insane. Stanley will direct and pen the screenplay for the project, which he has been working on for several years. “There needs to be a scary Lovecraft movie,” Stanley said last year. “I want to make a bad trip film, and ‘The Colour…’ definitely has what it takes to be a very, very bad trip indeed.

H.P. Lovecraft is the undisputed father of literary horror, and yet, bafflingly, there has yet to be a cinematic treatment that captures the dark beauty of the man’s oeuvre,” said SpectreVision co-founder Daniel Noah in a statement. “Richard Stanley’s note perfect adaptation of Color Out of Space represents an epiphany for me — as it no doubt will be for legions of Lovecraft devotees around the world.

Casting is currently under way on Color Out of Space, and the plan is for the project to start shooting in early 2016.

Bloodsucking Bastards Put the Bite on Blu-ray and DVD

Scream Factory’s Bloodsucking Bastards (review) is hitting Blu-ray and DVD later this year, and we have all your details right here.

From the Press Release:
This fall, sink your teeth into Bloodsucking Bastards (aka Bloodsucking Bosses), an action-packed vampire comedy in the vein of Office Space and Shaun of the Dead. Directed by Brian James O’Connell and penned by the popular comedy troupe Dr. God and Ryan Mitts, Bloodsucking Bastards takes audiences on a hilarious, blood-spattered roller coaster ride in the most terrifying locale of all: the American workplace.

This film boasts an all-star cast, including Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods), Pedro Pascal (“Narcos,” “Game of Thrones”), Emma Fitzpatrick (Significant Mother, The Collection), and Yvette Yates (Inherent Vice) with Joel Murray (“Mad Men”) and Joey Kern (Cabin Fever).

On November 3, 2015, Scream Factory is proud to present Bloodsucking Bastards on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD, and On Demand platforms everywhere. Filled with raucous laughs and buckets of blood, Bloodsucking Bastards comes loaded with bonus features including an audio commentary with the Dr. God comedy troupe – director Brian James O’Connell, producer/actor Justin Ware, writer/actor Sean Cowhig, actor Neil W. Garguilo, and actor David F. Park; a behind-the-scenes featurette; and a gag reel.

Bloodsucking Bastards stars Fran Kranz as Evan Sanders, a low-level, dutiful employee stuck in a boring job at a soul-killing every corporation. Evan’s the kind of guy who does all the work and gets none of the credit, but at least he gets to spend his days with his beautiful co-worker/girlfriend Amanda (Emma Fitzpatrick) and his slacker best friend Tim (Joey Kern), so he soldiers on in the hope of one day getting his coveted sales director position.

Unfortunately, it all falls apart in one fell swoop when Amanda breaks up with him, and Evan’s boss Ted (Joel Murray) hands his promotion to his college nemesis Max (Pedro Pascal). And it isn’t just their sordid past Evan has to deal with. After his fellow office mates start going through disturbing changes (which, paradoxically, make them better employees) and bodies begin to pile up, Evan learns the horrible truth: Max is a vampire. And even worse… a vamp with a plan.

Evan must find a way to stop the evil brewing amidst the cubicles, expose Max as the bloodsucking bastard that he is, and save his pals before his life and career go from dead-end… to just dead.

Bloodsucking Bastards made its world premiere as the opening night film at the Slamdance Film Festival 2015 and has since played at select U.S. cinemas to great audience enthusiasm. The film was produced by Fortress Features (Brett Forbes, Patrick Rizzotti) in association with Maybe This Year Productions (Brandon Evans), Colleen Hard, and Justin Ware.

Special Features

  • Audio commentary with the Dr. God comedy troupe including director Brian James O’Connell, producer/actor Justin Ware, writer/actor Sean Cowhig, actor Neil W. Garguilo, and actor David F. Park
  • Behind-the-scenes featurette (Bloodsucking Bastards on set)
  • Gag reel

Now that it’s currently flipping stomachs all over the UK on DVD, we thought we’d give you a bit of a hand training your gag reflex courtesy of an icky little clip from sexual infection shocker Contracted: Phase I. So, courtesy of Primal Screen, get ready to learn just how hard it can be to look good when you’re, well… rotting.

Contracted: Phase I (review) stars Najarra Townsend, Katie Stegeman, Caroline Williams, and Simon Barrett and is directed by Eric England.

Synopsis:
After a lapse in her relationship with her lover (Katie Stegeman) forces twenty-something party girl Samantha (Najarra Townsend) to move back in with her overbearing mother (Caroline Williams), things seem to be at an all-time low. But the devil-may-care Samantha soon finds escape in a one-night stand with a mysterious man (Simon Barrett) who leaves her hungover, guilt-ridden, and infected.

Uncertain of the disease or the man who gave it to her, Samantha attempts to hide it from her loved ones. But she soon realises that she is not just the victim but rather the host of something much more catastrophic, and that she and those around her are in mortal danger.

To celebrate the UK release of Turbo Kid – on digital download 28th September and DVD/Blu-ray 5th October – we have a copy on DVD to give away!

Set in a vision of the future, Turbo Kid (review) will be instantly recognisable to anyone who spent a wasted youth in the video store – it’s a retro-adventure for the ages packed with nods to 1980s pop culture (even down to Atari-style credits and its synth-tastic score) and riffs on the kids’ adventure movies such The Monster Squad and The Goonies.

With its crazy decapitations, disembowelments, and dismembered limbs, Turbo Kid follows in the footsteps of other hyper pastiche movies such as Wolfcop and Hobo With a Shotgun, with director Jason Eisener bringing his grindhouse touch as a producer. Also on hand is legendary actor Michael Ironside (Total Recall, Starship Troopers), who brings some serious genre credentials to the movie and leads a cast of up-and-coming talent.

“An outrageous, blood-soaked gore-fest” – Joshua Winning, Total Film

“Mad Max on a BMX” – Wired

Per Deadline, national treasure John Goodman has joined the cast of Kong’s return to the big screen. He’ll be playing the role of Randa, a government official who leads an expedition.

Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly, and Toby Kebbell also star in the project, which is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Producing are Legendary’s John Jashni and Thomas Tull as well as Mary Parent.

The film is about a man (Hiddleston) who travels to the mythical island and home of the king of the apes. A team of explorers venture inside what they find to be a treacherous island. The story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period.

Up until this week, Ridley Scott had been ensuring everyone that the first sequel to Prometheus would distance itself from the Alien franchise, which is why it was quite surprising when he announced that the film will now be titled Alien: Paradise Lost. Say what?!

In a (very brief) new interview with Hey U Guys, Scott clarified the meaning of the title, suggesting that the Alien connection will be strong in this one.

We’re heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented,” Scott noted, when asked about the title. “We’ll go back into the backdoor of the very first Alien that I did 30 years ago.”

As recently noted, Scott is planning three sequels to Prometheus, leaving the fate of Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel up in the air.
